Solana–Ethereum Bridge Routes Compared

Wormhole (guardian attestation)

Typical Ethereum-to-Solana USDC transfer completes in 15–25 minutes depending on Ethereum congestion and relayer activity. Fees include Ethereum gas for locking, a small Wormhole protocol fee, and Solana transaction costs for redemption. Custody sits in Ethereum smart contracts until redemption.

Wrapped tokens follow Wormhole's mint authority on Solana. Always verify the mint address against Wormhole's published token list — counterfeit wrapped tokens exist.

Portal (Wormhole-powered NFT and token bridge)

Portal uses Wormhole's guardian layer for many assets but exposes a different frontend and token list oriented toward NFTs and specific SPL tokens. Latency characteristics mirror Wormhole for shared assets. Some Portal-listed tokens have thinner liquidity on Solana DEXs, affecting your ability to swap after bridging.

Allbridge (liquidity network model)

Allbridge maintains pooled liquidity on both chains rather than lock-and-mint for all assets. Transfers can be faster when pools are balanced, but large transfers may face slippage or partial fills. Trust shifts partly to pool operators and rebalancing incentives.

Decision factors beyond speed

Canonical mint: Does the token issuer recognize this bridge's wrapped version?
Redemption path: Can you unwind the position on both chains if needed?
Amount: Large transfers may hit pool limits on liquidity-network bridges.
Regulatory context: Some jurisdictions treat bridge operators differently; consult your compliance team.
